Original Item: Only One Available. This is a textbook example of a pair of Late Indian Wars/ Spanish-American War Era Model 1885 Mounted Service Trousers. As issued by cavalrymen from 1885 to 1902. These were worn everywhere with the U.S. Cavalry; from fighting Geronimo in Arizona to Charging San Juan Hill!
To an untrained eye, these are very similar to U.S. Civil War Issue Trousers. They are constructed of a sky blue kersey wool, which, while similar in shade to their Civil War counterparts are in fact a slightly darker blue shade. As typical with garments from the later portion of the 19th Century, a mixture of hand and machine sewing is visible. The Cavalry yellow inseam stripe is fabricated from fine melton wool, and is original to the trousers. The seat retains its woolen reinforcement as well.
Inside the trouser lining at the waist is a Depot Stamp, New York Inspector’s stamp, and a 1891 Date.
It should be noted that these trousers have been hemmed and taken in to make them smaller in size. HOWEVER, This was done in such a way that the trousers can be let back out without showing signs of having done so.
This is an excellent opportunity to obtain a scarce piece of iconic Cavalry dress from the period of the Old West!
